Background

Jared Levy, the co-founder and managing partner of Brix Partners, approached Modern Life for assistance with a client who was having trouble finding coverage. The client was a 46-year-old man who was previously denied coverage due to a history of stroke with atrial fibrillation (A-fib), a cardiovascular condition. Following the stroke, the client had a loop recorder implanted to monitor his heart for A-fib. 

Levy told us, “Securing an offer for the client was incredibly difficult due to his health conditions. Most carriers were not interested in taking the risk. I couldn’t believe we got a standard offer.”

  • $7M permanent life insurance policy
  • $80,000 budget.

Our approach

Our underwriting expert sent the client's file to our medical team, and our medical director reviewed the client’s loop recordings. After reviewing the data, our experts determined that the client was incorrectly diagnosed due to a false positive in the recordings, and no A-fib was present. 

Modern Life’s underwriting team created a cover letter detailing this new information with clinical support from the medical director.

The results

With our approach, Modern Life secured a standard offer and had the policy issued within seven days from application submission. The client selected a policy with a standard rating from one of the nation’s top carriers.
