Today, I am thrilled to announce the public launch of Modern Life, a technology-enabled life insurance brokerage dedicated to empowering advisors. I want to thank my colleagues and our advisors, investors, carriers, and partners who through their dedication and support have helped us reach this milestone. Our mission is to help everyone protect what matters most and we do this through building advanced technology to empower advisors. While we’ve made meaningful progress towards this, we have much more work yet to do given the scale of our challenge and opportunity.  

I was inspired by my own experience of buying life insurance for my family, a vital product in the financial wellbeing of hundreds of millions of Americans. I was shocked and humbled by how challenging it was for me to purchase coverage – I had to do an in person medical exam, phone interview, and fill in over 50 pages of paper application forms in a process that took months. As frustrating as my experience was, having spent years previously building several insurance technology businesses at CoverWallet and Aon, I came away energized by the potential to leverage technology, data, and design to dramatically transform the life insurance buying and selling experience.

I was shocked and humbled by how challenging it was for me to purchase coverage.

My co-founder Jack Arenas and I have the core belief that advisors play an essential role in the purchase of consequential and complex financial products like life insurance, long-term care, and disability insurance. We spoke with financial and insurance advisors of all kinds across the country and heard emphatically how challenging it is to get their clients life insurance coverage. Advisors today have to navigate a dizzying array of product features, medical underwriting nuances, tedious forms, and countless requirements. We believe that we can have the greatest impact by building technology and brokerage solutions with the advisor’s and client’s needs in mind, rather than optimizing for a specific insurance product or marketing channel. 

Jack and I have been joined by a seasoned team uniquely suited to tackle this opportunity. From established brokerage professionals with decades of experience to fintech veterans who have innovated in data-driven underwriting and digital distribution, we’ve been honored to welcome industry heavyweights to our cause. We’ve worked diligently to deeply understand and create an unprecedented digital experience for advisors. Our team has spent over a year building in stealth, creating technology and brokerage solutions not only for simple client needs but also for the most complex. We have worked closely with an early cohort of advisors – receiving their real world feedback, designing, and implementing solutions to their needs.

We are excited to launch Modern Life to you today with an unparalleled digital journey for advisors, partnerships with over 15 leading national carriers, 50 state coverage, and best-in-class brokerage expertise. 

The Covid-19 pandemic has upended many of the traditional ways of doing business, resulting in our industry changing at its fastest pace in its 150 year history. To our advisors, we pledge to work with you and innovate on your behalf so that you can succeed in this dynamic industry we call life.
